Scanlon Votes For $1.9 Trillion American Rescue Plan
Finalizing Urgently-Needed Resources to Open Economy and End COVID-19 Pandemic
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) voted to pass the American Rescue Plan, President Biden’s signature COVID-19 relief bill to crush the pandemic and send relief to working families, small businesses, restaurants, and state and local governments.
The American Rescue Plan will expand the child tax credit, speed up COVID-19 vaccinations, provide resources to help schools safely re-open, and provide immediate economic relief for those Americans hit hardest.
“The American Rescue Plan is transformational legislation designed to meet the challenges of this moment,” said Rep. Scanlon. “The resources authorized will support families with direct stimulus checks, cut childhood poverty in half, and allow vital state and local services to continue. Funding for state and local governments will help speed up vaccine distribution and make sure we can finally crush this pandemic.”
Rep. Scanlon continued, “While the final bill passed by the Senate didn’t have everything I wanted, I’m proud that nearly a trillion dollars of this legislation goes straight into the pockets of American families. This relief will give Americans the ability to protect their families and support a strong economic recovery. Unlike the 2017 tax cuts for corporations and the wealthiest Americans, the last bill passed using the reconciliation process, the American Rescue Plan has broad bipartisan support from voters and reflects democracy at its best: coming together to help each other through hard times.”
The American Rescue Plan includes:
- $1400 of direct stimulus to millions of low- and middle-income Americans
- $300 supplemental weekly unemployment benefits through September 6, 2021
- $3000 a year in expanded child tax credit benefits for children ages 6 to 17, $3600 for each child under age 6 for most American families
- $350 billion for states, cities, tribal governments, and U.S. territories, including:
- $109 million for Delaware County
- $161 million for Montgomery County
- $1.1 billion for the City of Philadelphia
- $41 million for Upper Darby
- $31 million for Chester
- $26 billion for emergency rental assistance and $10 billion for homeowner assistance
