What a week! While the State of the Union and impeachment trial consumed most of the media coverage, we’ve been working hard for the people! Here’s what we’ve been up to…

Participated in Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Subcommittee hearing on the impact of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC decision and the legislative remedies to address it

10 years ago, Citizens United opened the floodgates to dark money in our politics, drowning out the voices of many Americans.

The American people deserve a democracy that’s open, accountable, and responsive to the needs of our district, and our country.

It’s time for the Senate to pass HR1 to restore faith in our democracy!

Participated in House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing on the Federal Bureau of Investigation

There has been extensive reporting by the Department of Justice that there was an attempt to sow discord in the 2016 elections.

I had the opportunity to ask Director Wray about the role that the FBI has in stopping misinformation and voting day interference.

President Trump welcomed foreign interference in our elections from Russia and publicly said that he would do it again. I am committed to protecting the sanctity if our election. Our democracy depends on it.

The House Passed The PRO Act

This bill will ensure that employees across the country have the right to collectively bargain with all of the companies that control the terms and conditions of their employment.

The PRO Act will restore fairness to the American economy and give workers the seat at the bargaining table they rightly deserve. It will introduce meaningful, enforceable penalties for companies that violate workers’ rights.

Joined fellow Judiciary Committee members on letter questioning court misconduct rules

We have an obligation to conduct meaningful oversight of our courts. Part of that work is ensuring that allegations of sexual harassment are taken seriously and handled appropriately.

Hosted first town hall of 2020

Early this week I was joined by over 225 constituents at Penn State Brandywine for a town hall where I had the opportunity to answer questions on a wide array of topics!

Attended State of the Union with my guest, Kevin Harden, a gun violence survivor and West Philly Native

When Kevin was in college, he survived 5 gunshot wounds sustained during an altercation at a. Recreation Center in Southwest Philadelphia.

Kevin’s life had not been easy — his mother suffered from addiction and his father juggled several jobs to make ends meet. Then, Over the next two years, he lost both parents to cancer and he assumed responsibility as primary caretaker for his younger siblings.

Kevin’s turbulent childhood did not diminish his spirit or resolve. Following his college graduation, he decided to pursue law school with a desire to improve access to justice and opportunity for our most marginalized communities, and to extend a helping hand to others like himself.

We know that there is not one size fits all solution to gun violence, but every day that we fail to act, we fail our children and our country.

It has been 345 days with no action or vote from the Senate on common sense gun safety measures. Our country cannot wait any longer. Enough is enough.

Released Statement following the Senate’s vote on the two articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump

This week, the Senate turned its back on our Constitution and the rule of law. While I am deeply upset by the Senate’s decision, I continue to believe that we are better than what we appear to be today and that our Constitution will endure.
