In First Term, Scanlon Helps to Bring $1.195B in Federal Funds to PA-5

WASHINGTON, DC — In her first term, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon directly helped to secure $1,124,439,278 in federal funds to support various health, education, and jobs programs in Pennsylvania’s Fifth Congressional District. Constituents and organizations were awarded an additional $71,253,806 in federal grants from programs the Congresswoman voted to fund.

The freshman Congresswoman, who represents parts of South and Southwest Philadelphia, a portion of Montgomery County, and all of Delaware County, successfully fought to protect jobs in the region, secured critical grants for early education programs, and advocated for vital CARES Act funding to combat the ongoing public health crisis and to support the smallest of small businesses.

Protecting Jobs and Investing in Infrastructure in the Region

Congresswoman Scanlon has helped secure over $955M in federal funding to support jobs and infrastructure projects in the region. These efforts include:

• Leading bipartisan advocacy efforts to protect 3,400 jobs at Boeing’s Ridley Park Facility by securing $303,137,993 to continue the production of the Chinook Program, an important investment in our region and national security
• Successfully advocated for a $630M contract for the Philadelphia Shipyard, which will bring back 1,200 jobs to the region

Investing in Education Programs and Initiatives For Children & Families

Congresswoman Scanlon has helped secure over $21M in federal funding to support early, secondary, and post-secondary education initiatives in the 5th Congressional District. These efforts include:

• Securing $10,476,814 for the Head Start Program at Delaware County’s Intermediate Unit which provides accessible and affordable early childhood education to countless families throughout Delaware County

Leading on COVID-19 Federal Response

At the very start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congresswoman Scanlon started advocating for direct federal investment to support PA-05 businesses and services, including fighting for Philadelphia Airport — a vital regional economy driver — to receive $133M in federal support to weather the downturn in travel due to COVID. CARES Act funds also brought millions of dollars to public health organizations, supported local government services, and provided PPE for our frontline workers.

Safeguarding Accessible and Affordable Health Care

Congresswoman Scanlon has worked diligently to push back on efforts to undermine access to affordable health care and advocated for increased funding for federal programs that supports organizations in PA-05, including:

• $586,323 for the AIDS Care Group to support the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program
• $788,246 for public health services at Chespenn Health Services
• $1,070,000 for the Foundation for Delaware County’s efforts to eliminate health disparities in perinatal care
